Valentine

     Just a quick post today. It's 6*F here in Rochester with a wind chill of -16*F, Burrr……
Par for the course in Upstate New York.
     Todays card is a very quick and easy card that I created in about 30 minutes.
I started with Neenah Solar white #110 CS.  I cut 4 Heart flourishes from red CS and one from masking paper. I stacked the 4 red on top of each other and set it aside. Then I placed the mask on the front of my card positioning from top to bottom and to the right edge. Using my Make-up brushes and distress ink I shaded the area over the mask leaving white space to the left and bottom right of the mask. Then I splattered the area over the mask, leaving the top left white for my sentiment.

I removed the Mask and placed the stacked die cut over the white space left by the mask. I stamped the sentiment using my Misti and added a 1/4" piece of the red CS to the left edge for balance. I also stamped Happy Valentine's Day in the bottom right corner. 
     As usual for me I brought the die to the inside of the card, by placing the mask over the inside corner and shading with distress ink, and added a heart left over from the 4 I cut.

A simple quick card for my 15 year old Granddaughter, Gabby.

Floral Birthday

     Just a quick post to enter some challenges.
     This card was made using my stash again. It's so bright and colorful just like the way I feel while looking at my garden, in the Spring after a very long winter.  All the flowers were embossed in gold, water colored and fussy cut. I took them from my stash and started gluing them to 4 x 51/4" piece of white card stock, then I mounted the large Pink flower using dimensional tape. With my Clarity brushes I added yellow distress ink along the edge of the flowers for sunny glow. I stamped the sentiment and adhered to a pink card.  Time to create, about 15min.

Happy Birthday Bling

     Blue skies and sunshine, what a wonderful way to start the day!  We had a great visit with Chris, Lindsey and the kids last night, dinner and conversation, always a joy to spend time with family. Michael, Kari, Mark and Logan are moving back to NY in June, and in July, Dale and I will welcome our newest grandson Carter James, we can't wait. We love being a grandparents. Well enough about my life, for now, lol.
     Today's card is one I threw together using my stash of pre-stamped and water colored flowers.
I've mentioned this before in a previous post, New Year Hello,  I really love having premade florals for quick cards. This one took about 10 minutes to make. Yes, I stamped directly onto the glitter gold washi tape, doesn't it look amazing, I love it!  I adhered the tape to a strip of white card and centered it on my card using 1 narrow strip of dimensional tape down the middle. I adhered the flowers behind the strip with glue, but only along the bottom edge of the flowers, to give them some movement and dimension. Then I did the same with the leaves.

Watercolor Birthday

    So here we are, the first day of Spring in Rochester, NY. It's sunny with a few clouds, you know the white fluffy ones, and 30 degrees. Not very warm, but you can't have everything, I guess.  I can't wait to be able to open my windows and let the fresh air in, it's been way to long.
     My card today is one I made using a technique I saw in one of Jennifer McGuire's
 video's, I love this technique and have used it many times, with beautiful results.
     First I stamped my image on Canson watercolor paper. I inked up my stamp and spritzed it, quite a lot. and then stamped it. It came out even better than I expected and I set it aside to dry. I don't like to use my heat tool for drying as it might spread the ink where I don't want it, and sometimes warps the paper. Once dry I used my blue painters tape, (I stuck it to my arm to remove some of the stickiness first) and framed my stamped image with it. Then I took one of my background text stamps and inked it up, stamped it off on another piece of paper, then on my background. I repeated this several times using only a small section of the stamp. I used my blending tool and distress ink to color the background. When I took off my tape I had a center background with parts of the flower and branch outside of the inked area.
      I stamped my sentiment, trimmed down my card to 4" x 51/4"added some fun foam and adhered
it to a card.

Coneflowers and colored pencils

     I'm kind of a novice when it comes to colored pencils so, I asked my friend Lynda for a quick lesson. She was more than happy to oblige and I am so thankful to her, I learned so much. 
     My card today is the result of that lesson and I totally Love it! I hope you do too.

     After receiving some great tips and tricks on coloring and blending I created these blossoms and just had to use them on a card. I also created several more for my stash. 

     I laid out my flowers and leaves on my paper and then used a piece of Glade Press-n-Seal to hold it together and added my adhesives to it. This made it so easy to get it back just how I wanted it, giving the flowers lots of dimension. I used the Clarity brushes to go around the edges with just a hint of yellow and stamped the dots in the two greens then added the dew drops. I adhered it flat to my Burnt Orange card and it was done. 

     This is the first card I've made with my colored pencils, but defiantly not my last.

Watercolor Hello

     It's been a long cold winter, to much snow and temps. in the negatives. The only flowers I've seen in months are the ones on my cards. There have been signs of Spring, geese flying over head, honking their return, birds making lots of noise while they chase each other trying to find a nest mate; I just love listening to them. I haven't seen any Robins yet but I'm hopeful that I will soon. With Easter just a few weeks away I hope the weather gets warmer and the spring flowers in my gardens show themselves.

     My card today is one I made for my wonderful friend, Lynda Pleckan, for her birthday. Geraniums

are one of my favorite flowers, strong plants with beautiful blooms all spring and summer long. I took a little artistic license with the color, but  purple and green embossed in gold, just go so well together.

     I stamped and embossed the Geraniums on a piece of Bristol smooth, cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".
Using my Zig pens and a paint brush I colored the petals one at a time then went back with the same color to darken the centers. (Bristol smooth is my favorite paper to use with my Zigs because the color moves so well on it.) Next came the leaves and I did them the same.
     After the flower was completely dry I used my Clarity brushes and some Broken China Distress ink around the flower to accentuate it. I still thought it need something so I pulled out my stash of
hero arts background and edging stamps. These are my go to stamps whenever I'm creating a background. I chose colors that matched the ones I used for the flowers and stamped them off before bring them to my paper, for a lighter image.
     Using my Kat Scrappiness Die I cut the card. Then I cut out the word hello from my Gold mirror paper. I then decided to add the gold washi tape around the edges of the card, I didn't want to waste it so I placed it on my trimmer and cut my strips half. adhered it to my card and finished of the inside.

New Years Hello

Hello,
     I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to a healthy, happy and very Crafty New Year. My Christmas was fill with all the people I Love and my New Year started by welcoming a new little Niece to the family, Brynn Harper Linton, what a sweet girl. My Sister is over the Moon to have another grandchild to love, as are we all. My husband and I also found out over the holidays that we will be welcoming a new grandson in July, we're so excited, #6 is on the way.
     I didn't get into my craft room much in the last few months, but my New Years resolution is to work on my blog more and enter more challenges, so here I am. I've made several cards with stamps I received for Christmas and from my stash of previously stamped and colored flowers.
      Whenever I get a new stamp, I stamp them out several times and color them for future use. That way when I need a card fast, I can go to my stash and get it done fairly quickly.
     My Stash of Altenew flowers:

When making this card I decided to use several flowers from different sets and my Altenew Wood Pallet background.

     The flowers and leaves are from 3 sets, Peony Bouquet, Garden Treasure and Beautiful Day all from Altenew. I used distress inks, Recollections 110 lb. grey card stock, and Neenah solar white 110 lb. card stock. I adhered all the leaves and the Peony to the card then added a piece of 110lb. card behind the pink Garden Treasures flower and dimensional tape behind the Beautiful Day flower. This gave it many dimensions and I loved the effect.

Just Because

Hello,
     I hope everyone had a safe and delicious Thanksgiving and are on your way to a wonderful Christmas. Mine was filled with friends and family, laughter, love and lots of pie. LOL
     It's a beautiful fall day here in Rochester, NY but I had to get in my craft room and get my cards done for some challenges. So here goes.
     My card today is really just a throw together card, meaning; I had some flowers in my stash that I  made quite a while ago and hadn't used yet. I do this with all my stamp sets when first get them. This gives me lots of pretty flowers when I need a card fast.
     I started with a plain piece of Neenah #110 card stock and my distress inks. Using a blender and Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo I added the colors to the top and left side of my card which was cut to 4 x 51/4" and stamped my sentiment, Altenew Sketchy Floral, 3/4 of the way down on the right. Then using dimensional tape I added the flowers and leaves from my Altenew set Garden Treasures, from my premade stash. Gems are from Pretty pink Posh.
     This card took me about 10minutes to make and I love it! hope you do too.

Remember this Lovely Day

     It's been a very busy year so far and it's not slowing down, Baseball, Soccer, and Football with the grandkids was awesome; watching our oldest granddaughter graduate from middle school made us so proud and also sad, time passes way to swiftly. I have two grandsons in Florida who will be moving back to New York next summer and they also will be playing sports, along with their father. Free time, what's that, LOL.
      I do however make time to make my cards and scrapbook as much as possible. I love to look back on our lives and share memories with my boys and their families.

     Scrapbooks help keep our memories alive. My grandchildren never got the chance to meet their Uncle Mark, he was taken from us in 2004, but when they look through his scrapbook and ask about pictures of his life they feel closer to him, and get to know who he was. The little boy in my page below is my grandson, he is named for his Uncle Mark.

     My page today is of a photo shoot taken in May of 2015 when my Daughter in Law was very pregnant with their second child. They live in Florida near Fort Lauderdale Beach and had a lovely day taking pictures and enjoying the Sunshine and the Water. My Grandson had a great time playing in the waves and trying his hand at photography. There were so many beautiful picture of this Lovely day, that eventually, they too will make it into my scrapbook. 

     

     I used a sheet of Canson 140lb, 12x18 watercolor paper cut to 12x12. I then used 3 distress inks, Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Mermaid Lagoon. I swiped the colors across a plastic bag from side to side in 3 lines, and spritzed with water, I also sprayed the paper, then I used the smushing technique all around the center and dabbed the remainder of the ink around the edges for splashes. When it was dry I stamped the Altenew Sketchy Floral in the corners using black Archival Ink and my Tonic studios stamping platform. Using Mermaid Lagoon, Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey, Peeled Paint and Gathered Twiggs distress inks, I water colored the flowers. I placed my pictures down and using an craft knife cut the flowers to lay over the pictures.

     For the words and phrases I used Altenew 365 and Sweet Friend and Sketchy Floral, 2 sticker numbers and a Family stamp I had in my stash.

Balloons

Hello,
    I was so excited over getting back to scrapbooking that I went straight to work on the next page. I have so many pictures of my youngest grandson, Logan that it was difficult to choose.
    I settled on his birth announcement and the wheels started to turn.
    Starting with a 12x12 piece of  Canson watercolor paper and Ranger distress re-inkers, I wet the entire paper and dropped Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean onto the surface of the paper and using a spray bottle of water moved the ink where I wanted it . Then I dabbed off the excess with a paper towel and let it dry.
    While it was drying I got out my new Altenew set, Baby Balloon, and made nine balloons. I just love the way they turned out. Love this set. I scanned my original announcement and enlarged it for the page. After placing the pictures down I went to work placing the balloons. Wherever I placed a balloon I had to stamp on the page, very nerve racking, I cut out all the balloons only saving the balloon and basket. Then I placed the cut pieces over the stamped image on the page and voilà the ropes were back. I used dimensional tape to pop up the front balloons and then added the banners.
stamped stars in the sky using Pumice Stone distress ink and then added little sequin stars to the centers. At the bottom I added onesies for Mommy and Daddy from Altenew's Little One set and a sentiment from Baby Balloon set.

Logan

Hi,
     WOW, long time no blog, LOL.
      It's been a busy summer so far and I just haven't found my way to my computer. I've been trying to make my way back to scrapbooking as I love it and haven't done it for about 5 years, I guess I just got lost in card making.
      My Grandkids were here just the other day and wanted to look at their albums, but were a little disappointed that there were no new pages. I realized that I had fallen down on my job as family historian and that I should remedy that. I started with my youngest Grandson Logan because at least the others have a scrapbook. He's 2 now and I haven't even started his. So I went to work using a picture of him when he was 17months and the result is below.

     This Picture is of Logan walking through a field of wildflowers with that awesome smile on his face it's so adorable and sweet I had to make a page for it.

     I started with Canson 140lb watercolor paper cut to 12 x12. I soaked the page in the center and dropped several drops of, ranger distress ink re-inkers onto the wet area and moving the paper let it over lap and spread. Then I dabbed up the excess and splashed some water on it with my fingers to lift some of the ink. I dabbed these areas with paper towel and then took the re-inkers and used it to splatter the page. I set it a side to let it dry.

     I then pulled out my Altenew stamp sets, Best Buds and Budding Thanks, and went to work on the flowers. Once they were all stamped I fussy cut them out.

      Now my background was dry so I could get to work on it. I used my large Prima stencil and some Dream Weavers matte black embossing paste for the word adorable. I also used Prima stencil to create the circles on the background.

      When the background was dry I popped Logan's picture up using foam and then arranged the flowers using dimensional tape. I added the stems for the flowers in front and water colored the shadows for the back flowers.

      I used my Sizzix fun serif dies for Logan's name and added the finishing touches with Altenew

sets, Painted Butterflies, Adore You, Floral Shadow and a Quote from Recollections. I also did a little journaling and added a few more flowers to balance to page.

      It's nice to know that after 5 years away I can still scrapbook.

Birthday Wishes

Hello!


     I can't believe how long it's been since my last blog. I've been so busy! I've  made lots of cards for lots of  Birthday's, Anniversaries and Mother's day. My Daughter-in-Law Graduated from college and we went on vacation to visit my In-Laws they're 93 and 90 and have had a rough year but they came out on top and are in good health.
     I'm itching to get back in the swing of things and I'm starting with this card I made for the Altenew May Inspiration Challenge.

     I've been trying to work on and perfect my water coloring and shading so I've been practicing, a lot. I embossed my image first, for a little extra help keeping in the lines of the petal. For this card I used Remember This and Beautiful Day stamp sets and my Sentiment is from Floral Frame.

     Using my MISTI, I stamped the flowers and leaves on Canson watercolor paper using VersaMark ink and embossed in Ranger Queen's Gold embossing powder. I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens to color the rose buds, leaves and small rose. For the larger flower I used Ranger distress inks to watercolor. Then I fussy cut all the pieces out.

     I used 110lb Core'dinations white card stock for my A2 card and a strip of  SU gold paper for the edge. After affixing the gold strip to the card I laid out all the leaves and the buds where I wanted them and adhered them to the front of the card, then I use dimensional tape to adhere the larger flowers. I stamped the birthday wishes with VersaMark and embossed it using Queen's Gold again.

     Using my Clairty brushes and Tumbled Glass distress ink I shaded around the flowers. I added some blue Queen and Comp. pearls and was done.  

     I really enjoyed making this card, and I think I'm going to have a hard time giving it away, LOL.

The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge-(Days 4&5)

Hi All,

      Had some difficulty linking my project to Kathy's blog, but I finally figured it out. I guest when I read the first blog I forgot that all Links are to the first 30 Day challenge blog. I did post them on the 30 Day challenge Facebook page, but now that I know where I'm going I will be posting through my blog post.

       So (Day 4) was a Penny Black slapstick/cling and my Altenew markers. I haven't used the markers much yet but after watching several YouTube videos I went to work coloring this beautiful stamp. When I got done I decided to fussy cut it out, I love to fussy cut, and pop it up on a spellbinders A2 card creator die. I was very happy with the result.

     For (Day 5) I went back to my Prismacolor pencils to see if the card I created with them on day 3 was a fluke. LOL. I used another Penny Black stamp and went to work. This one, I got for Christmas from my Hubby and I just love it. It has several different flowers and leaves so I could use lots of color, I was very excited to see how I would do.

     After I finished coloring it I went back and used my black pencil, very sharp tip, and  outlined the leaves and some of the flowers, this made everything pop and I love it.

I then added a few extra touches. I used my Tim Holtz brick stencil and some distress in to create a wall in the background and a sentiment from Penny Black. I used foam to pop the whole thing up on the card.

Prismacolor pencils #The Daily Marker 30 Day

Hello,
      Well here it is day 3 in, The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge. I got a set of 132 Prismacolor soft core colored pencils for Christmas, from my wonderful hubby, and to tell you the truth I was having a little trouble getting used to them. Water coloring is my go to, but I really wanted to expand my knowledge and do something different.  So, I watched some YouTube videos on Prismacolor pencils,
I saw several different ways to use these pencils and picked the one that I thought would work best for me. Then I got to work. For a first try I think I did well.
      I used 3 shades of red and 3 shades of green and a black. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out and I will definitely be working with my pencils again soon.
       After I colored the image I fussy cut it out and using my Xyron I adhered them to another piece of card that I had stamped my sentiment and the outline of the flower, I used Distress ink to shade and popped it up with some foam on a gray card.

Hello again,
     Recently I celebrated my birthday and one of the things I got from my good friend, Lynda Plecken
(http://paperartscafe.blogspot.com/) was a pad of  Bienfang 170# Canvas paper. Well, I was itching to try it out so I grabbed my stamps and inks and got started.
     First I took a piece of computer paper and stamped out the outline for what I was planning. Then using my MISTI, I stamped and masked until my card looked like my outline.
    

     I just love Altenew stamps, they are so versatile. I stamped the outline of the flower with Archival ink with my Misti, then used my Ranger distress ink to stamp and watercolor the flowers and leaves. I used Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick for the pink flowers and Barn Door and Fired Brick for the red, Peeled Paint and Forest Moss for the leaves. Then I used Stormy Sky to shadow.  Because of the texture of the paper stamping without water coloring left lines and dots in my flowers but after adding water they still had texture but the lines and dots were gone. I love the way it looks and I love this paper.

     I stamped the sentiment (Hampton Arts#jb0198) and added a few sequins. I'm very happy with this card and I will definitely be using this paper again.

One-Of-A-Kind

Hello,
    I've been doing a little experimenting, trying to see if I can make my own glimmer paste. I have some Dreamweaver's translucent embossing paste and I wanted to make a pretty textured background for my card. I took about a tablespoon of the paste and added some Martha Stewart green glitter, about a teaspoon. I didn't measure it, but when I mixed it, it was very green. I used a stencil and pallet knife to apply the paste to my card and let it dry. I was thrilled at the result. I will definitely use this technique again. the best thing is no glitter mess coming off the card.

     I stamped Altenew's One-Of-A-Kind mini flower on watercolor paper, colored it with my Zig clean color pens and fussy cut it out. I used a spellbinders die, and dimensional tape to pop-up the flower on the die. Then I used a 1" piece of white paper, stamped One-Of-A-Kind, and used my Ranger distress ink (Picked Raspberry) and my blender tool to color the strip and the edges of the frame. Then popped up the front panel on a white card with foam.

     I've been spending a lot of time in my craft room this past week, trying new techniques and some old ones that I've forgotten about. I was reminded of one that I used to teach years ago, by Vicki Papaioannou ( Birthday Card/ Aqua Flow pens/ Novo Glimmer Paste/video).
     I don't have any Novo Glimmer paste (http://goo.gl/1DZxhR) but I do have tons of embossing paste from my classes and some Farber Castell Glass Bead Glitter Gel.
    I started by selecting the stencil I wanted for the background, I have tons of stencils so finding the right one took me a while. Once I had it, I cut my paper down to the size I wanted, because once the paste dries it would be impossible to cut on my trimmer. I used a 110lb cardstock for this to give it stability, but 65lb works just as well. I taped down my card stock, using Scotch removable Tape, I love using it because it doesn't stick to my card ever. Then I aligned the stencil where I wanted it, and taped it down. Using my pallet knife I applied the FC Glass Bead paste to the stencil in a downward stroke, using just enough pressure to apply the paste, then in an upward stroke in the same place. By doing this it fills in all the spaces you might have missed on the first stroke and gives a more even layer. Then I removed the stencil and placed it in a warm soapy water bath so the stencil would clean up easily. I removed the tape from my paper and move my background to a safe place to dry while I made my flowers.
     I stamped out my flowers using Altenew's Beautiful Day stamps, and Distress Ink. Then I fussy cut them out. By the time I was done my background was dry and I could put my card together.
     Using glue dots I placed my leaves where I wanted them on the background. then I cut a circle for the back of one of the flowers, to give just a little more dimension from the leaves. the second flower was popped up using dimensional tape. I cut a small banner of pink and stamped Be Mine from my Clearly Posh stamp set (POSH-CST-024). Then matted in pink and adhered it to a white card.
      I love the way the card turned out and will be using this technique more often from now on.
